I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

If water is leaking, turn the water off at the nearest service valve or at the mains valve outside. If you cannot find the water main isolation valve or a tap to the appliance, then turn on all the cold faucets inside and out to help depressurise the household pipework and reduce the leak.

Once that’s sorted, give our plumber a ring, whatever the day or time is. We’ll be there shortly to fix the leak.

While you are waiting for the plumber to arrive, clear away any significant possessions from the area, and clean up any water or put a bucket to catch any drips. If you have turned the mains water off, switch off the hot water heating as well.

Help, I don’t know where the main water shutoff valve is!

You may have been shown it as a stopcock, isolating valve or toby. This valve is normally located on the boundary near the road, usually under a blue or black plastic cover.
