I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

What do you do when a plumbing emergency arises? The very first thing is to ensure it's safe, and hopefully not getting even worse. Electricity and water do not combine safely, so if you need to, turn the mains switch off at the power panel.

If there is still water leaking, turn off the service valve to the appliance or fixture if possible, or go immediately to the main shutoff valve for your property. If you are unable to locate the water valve to turn off, then you could try turning on all the cold water taps inside and outside your house to depressurise the system and minimise the leak.

Once you have stopped the leak from growing, give our emergency plumber a call, any hour of the day or night. They’ll be there promptly to solve the issue.

In the meantime, start wiping up any water, place a bucket to catch drips, and clear away significant things from the area. If the house water is turned off, also switch off the heating for the hot water.
