While you wait, start wiping up any water, position a bucket to catch any drips, and remove valuable possessions from the area. If the property water is turned off, then also switch off the heating for the hot water.

Help, I don’t know where the main water shutoff valve is!

You may have been shown it as a stopcock, isolating valve or toby. This valve is normally located on the boundary near the road, usually under a blue or black plastic cover.
