I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

What do you do when a plumbing emergency arises? The very first thing is to ensure it's safe, and hopefully not getting even worse. Electricity and water do not combine safely, so if you need to, turn the mains switch off at the power panel.

If water is still leaking, turn off the water at the nearest isolating valve or at the mains tap outside. If you can’t locate the water main isolation valve or a tap to the appliance, then turn on the cold taps inside and out to help depressurise the household pipework and reduce the leak.

Once you have stopped the diaster from worsening, give our emergency plumber a call, at any time of the day or night. They’ll be there quickly to resolve the issue.

While waiting for our emergency plumber to arrive, remove any significant things, mop up any water, and put a container to catch any drips. You should also turn off the hot water heating if the main water is turned off.
